Formerly an illustrious address of the pioneer of cable radio in Singapore, the iconic building of Rediffusion at 182 Clemenceau Avenue, in which the hotel is housed, was officially opened by Singapore’s Governor Sir Franklin Gimson in August 1949. With the road named after Georges Clemenceau, a French premier in honour of his fortitude during World War I, the hotel site was once home to one of Singapore’s earliest railway stations which operated from 1902 to 1932. Today, with its close proximity to existing prominent landmarks like The Istana, The National Museum of Singapore and Fort Canning Hill, the hotel’s locale is steeped in history.
